Two Rivers and Four Lakes is a connecting water system located in Guilin downtown area. As the name suggests, it consists of two rivers and four lakes. The two rivers are Li River and Taohua (Peach Blossom ) River. The four lakes are Rong (Banyan Tree) Lake, Shan (Chinese fir) Lake, Gui (Osmanthus tree) Lake, and the Mulong (Wooden Dragon) Lake. These lakes and rivers are linked up and formed Guilin's central round-the-city water system.
The Two Rivers and Four Lakes make Guilin just like a grand beautiful park. The scenery along the rivers and lakes can compare in beauty of the Amsterdam Canal, the Scenic Paris and the waterways of Venice. It is just like wandering in a wonderland to visit the rivers and bridges.

Twin Marble Bridges
There are two identical arched marble bridges located in front of the Ancient South Gate across the Rong Lake. Sitting by the bridge, during the sunset, what picturesque scenery and nobody will want to leave.
Altogether there are 19 bridges connecting the two rivers and four lakes. These 19 bridges are styled after famous bridges at home and abroad.

There are pavilions, statues, and stone carvings scattered around the lakes and there are several pavilions located on the banks of lakes. Local people have rest in the pavilions and visitors stop at the pavilions to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.


At night with the lamplights glittering on the pristine water, the landscape turns into a galaxy of ecological harmony between human and nature. Taking a cruise through the Two Rivers Four Lakes area in the evening will be a wonderful experience. As the slow moving boat travels through the area the extraordinary scenery passes by like a moving postcard. There are performances located along the route including local Guilin Opera, dancing fountains, and traditional music. The performances are located in buildings located on the riverbank. These cannot be viewed by people who just walk around the scenic area, but are reserved for people on the cruise.

Shan Lake is famous for its Twin Pagodas. One is in golden, called Sun Pagoda; the other is in silver, called Moon Pagoda. The 9-storied Sun Pagoda is 41 meters high, made of solid bronze, while the 7-storied Moon Tower is 35 meters high, made of wood and glazed tiles. Both pagodas are located in the middle of the lake. The Moon Pagoda can be reached by a bridge, but the Sun Pagoda must be reached by an underwater passage located between the two pagodas.

There is another pagoda lighting at night which is in the Mulong Lake. The architecture style in Mulong Lake is in Tang Dynasty. Cruising through the Mulong Lake, just like enter the time tunnel and come back to Tang Dynasty.

The Two Rivers and Four Lakes area is an oasis from the hustle and bustle of downtown. It has been a garden of local people's life and also a famous sightseeing spot for the visitor.
