Yangshuo Light Show - Impression Liusanjie Show
The premiere of the Impression Liusanjie Light Show was on March 20th, 2004 at the Sanjie Liu Sing fair, about a mile from West Street and it became a great success shortly. It was a huge outdoor performance with, then 1800 seats available (now 2500). Some of the area had to be adjusted for the show. The participants in the show are more than 600 people and they are all locals, mostly from Zhuang and Yao background.
The show was created by Zhang Yimou who also directed the famous 2002 movie 'Hero.' And he was also the chief director and created the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games. He used the natural resources in Yangshuo to give his show a maximum effect. The usage of lights and water emphasizes the beauty of the Li River and the limestone mountains in a way no one had seen ever.
The show is based on a legend of Ms. Liu Sanjie (The third sister of Liu family) from Zhuang minority group who had a beautiful voice at very early age. Her voice was so beautiful it even could raise the dead. It became such a famous story that in 1960 a movie was released.
